To boost digital literacy skills, the Association of Professional Women Engineers of Nigeria (APWEN), has inaugurated its Artificial Intelligence (AI) Girls in Engineering Club, aimed at grooming young experts to boost the nation’s rapid industrialisation. About 300 undergraduates and young female engineers were inaugurated under the scheme named, APWEN Lagos Skill Up Initiatives tagged: “Skill Development on Industry Trends And Cutting Edge Technologies” in Lagos. To boost competence of budding engineers, Lagos-based firm, MOMAS Electricity Meters Manufacturing Company Limited (MEMMCOL) said it will collaborate with the Association of Professional Women Engineers of Nigeria (APWEN) Lagos Chapter, towards training of the young female engineers. The Managing Director of the company, Mr. Hammed Abiodun, stated this during an industrial visit by APWEN to the firm’s head office in Mowe, Ogun State. The visit, which was led by the chairman of the chapter, Mrs. Atinuke Owolabi, other executive members, attracted APWEN’s students from the University of Lagos (UNILAG) and Lagos State University (LASU). The Lagos State chapter of the Association of Professional Women Engineers of Nigeria (APWEN) has elected new officials to lead the chapter for the next two years. Those elected include Atinuke Owolabi, as new chairman, Bosede Oyekunle, as vice chairman, Ayodolapo Bello-general secretary, Suwebat Oriyomi Abubakar as assistant general secretary and Zansi Adebowale, as publicity secretary, among others. In her acceptance speech, Owolabi pledged to be a voice for all female engineers in the state by setting the pace for others to follow in engineering development. She assured that the association would consistently advocate for equality of opportunities by empowering members and cultivating a nurturing and inclusive atmosphere for aspiring engineers. The British Council has harped on equipping school inspectors and teacher mentors to achieve gender equality and inclusion within the sector.In a statement yesterday, signed by Marketing Manager, English Programmes and Schools Connect, Sub-Saharan Africa, Nebiyou Worku, the organisation announced a two-day training to enhance gender equality and inclusion in the education system. The Lagos Chapter, Association of Professional Women Engineers of Nigeria (APWEN) has trained 200 girls from 15 secondary schools on Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) to mark the International Day of the Girl Child. The students were taken through practical STEM activities, which included paper circuits, how to use aluminium foil and battery to power LED bulbs, on Wednesday in Lagos. Read More!
