APWEN Lagos Chapter recently hosted an impactful engagement centered on the theme “Water and Gender Equality,” bringing together key stakeholders, industry leaders, and advocates committed to sustainable development and women empowerment in STEM. The event highlighted the vital role women play in water sustainability, environmental management, and community development while promoting collaborative solutions toward achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Members of APWENLagos were joined by distinguished guests including Mr. Anifowoshe Rashaq (Deputy Director, Corporate Affairs, Lagos Water Corporation), Engr. Zansi Adebowale, MNSE (Vice Chairman, APWENLagos Chapter), Dr. Adebayo Alao (Head of Lagos Program, WaterAid Nigeria), and Mrs. Omobolanle Magbagbeola (Deputy Director, Lagos State Ministry of Environment & Water Resources). The event fostered insightful discussions on water accessibility, environmental sustainability, and empowering women to lead innovative solutions for a better future.

The Girl I Am, The Change I Lead: Empowering Girls in STEM for a Brighter Future   As we celebrate the International Day of the Girl Child 2025, the theme “The Girl I Am, The Change I Lead” resonates deeply with the need to empower girls in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields. Girls are increasingly taking the lead in driving innovation, solving global challenges, and shaping the future. By supporting and encouraging girls in STEM, we can unlock their potential to become change-makers and leaders in their communities. Girls in STEM: The Future Leaders – Innovation: Girls in STEM are developing solutions to real-world problems, from climate change to healthcare. – Leadership: By pursuing STEM education and careers, girls can develop the requisite skills and confidence to lead and inspire others. – Resilience: The training in STEM builds resilience in girls as they must stay at it until solutions are proffered for identified challenges. Empowering Girls in STEM: – Access to Education: Ensuring girls have equal access to quality STEM education and resources. – Mentorship: Providing girls with role models and mentors in STEM fields to guide and inspire them. – Supportive Environment: Creating a supportive environment that encourages girls to pursue STEM careers. STEM education empowers girls to make informed decisions about their lives, health, environment and well-being.
